The course is awarded by Pearson and it gives students a practical grounding in a range of business disciplines such as accounting, human resource management, operations management and marketing. The purpose of the course is to ensure the development of skills and knowledge to ensure employability in a wide range of business environments.
There are eight modules each year, over two years. The course emphasises the development and assessment of practical skills relevant to a wide range of business careers. Stage one subjects include business, human resources, finance, marketing, enterprise and opportunity and business in context. Stage two builds further on these modules with an emphasis on skills as well as knowledge, for example, management skills development and the use of computer packages in accounting.

Students who complete the HND successfully may choose to top-up their studies to the final year of degree study in Marketing Management and Business and Management
